about us

Scott Ranch Canvas & Upholstery, LLC

The Scott Ranch had its inception when we (Roger & Lori) got married.  It began as a sled dog kennel on a small ranch in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  We repaired and fabricated dog harnesses, ganglines, and other gear associated with dogsledding. In 2001 we moved to Mount Vernon, Maine with our three children and 17 sled dogs when Roger took a job as an Environmental Engineer with the Maine Army National Guard.

Over the years the kids grew, the original sled dogs lived long and happy lives, and the importance of poultry, eggs, and organically grown garden vegetables increased on the Scott Ranch.  Throughout the changes, the image of the dogsled and dogs has remained as our symbol.

After years of repairing and fabricating various items for our own use in our home and on the farm, we decided we could make a business of doing so for others.  Roger took early retirement from 28 years of engineering practice, and Scott Ranch Canvas & Upholstery was born.

In its infancy, the pandemic and global shutdowns struck us hard. A very challenging time in history to start a business and earn a living solely by the work of your own hands. We were down to our last $1000 in savings. As an unmistakable answer to earnest prayer, our phone rang with a call from Linda Bean, who gave us the dignity of quality work. Unaware of our desperate situation then, she became our best customer and a treasured loved one. A genius in the business and high-end antiques worlds, her mentorship and advice gave us great benefit and encouragement. We later learned she and Roger share Mayflower ancestors. We met this delightful lady at the Maine Highland Games back in 2018 when she graciously gave an impromptu prayer invocation at our son’s “flash mob homeschool high school graduation ceremony” on the athletic field before he competed.

In attending her Celebration of Life in 2024, we were mesmerized to meet so many other grateful people who shared stories similar to ours, where Linda changed desperate situations by creating opportunity for hard working, honest people she believed in. We are truly blessed and ever thankful to our “Jewish carpenter boss” for orchestrating Linda coming into in our lives and lovingly caring about our family, our growth and success. She truly made this world a better place one entrepreneur at a time.

"Very nice people who are extremely helpful and kindhearted. They know their business of working on anything to do with covering or repairing products. Products made to withstand wear over time like canvases, boat seats, awnings, etc. I highly recommend Scott Ranch Canvas."
